Inventory of Beliefs
We are all born as children that are perfect and loving. We love unconditionally
What has brought you from that place where you loved unconditionally? Is it important to you that you are able to express love unconditionally?
The first step in acknowledging where we find ourselves today is in taking an inventory of the beliefs we have now.
You could choose something easy to start with like, “I only eat fish on Friday”. If you are Catholic this may have meaning to you. If you were raised Catholic, but never practiced the religion, this may be a belief that the origin is lost to you. We carry many beliefs about self whose origins are lost to us. Unless we consciously seek them out and choose something else we are only adding new ones on top, like plaque in your arteries.
Regardless of knowing the origin of a belief, if it is not a belief that serves you, then you might want to consider shifting the energy of that belief to something that is more current for you.
My training in perceptual control theory has helped me understand that these beliefs and the behaviors they spawn are all purposeful. One of my teachers would say "you don't do something for nothing" All the things we do has purpose. Its working for us in some way, otherwise we would not do it.
I am encouraging you in this time to examine your beliefs as a starting point for creating the new you, the more empowered and effective you.
This exercise can be one you work on over time.
I suggest you pick things that are easy to access for you to start with, like the fish on Friday belief. The next step is easy! Choose a belief that makes more sense to you, like fish is good every day of the week.
A strategy with this is to keep a journal. Writing in a Journal helps you to keep track of when you are having successes with changing your beliefs and when you might want to explore other options. It acts like the red tape on trees in the forest when you are hiking...helps you find your way.
This is the beginning point of my work with you on this site, as stated, this is an ever evolving space. Stay tuned for future developments and good luck in hunting your beliefs and replacing them with the ones you want in your life!
